
The project, funded by a $500,000 federal Community Development Block Grant, targets sidewalk sections with vertical displacements of two inches or greater in areas comprising approximately 28% of the city, according to a City Council agenda report.
A January 2025 community survey ranked infrastructure improvement as the second-highest priority among residents.
Northwest Pasadena streets scheduled for repairs include Fair Oaks Avenue, Marengo Avenue, Oakland Avenue, Del Monte Street, Hickory Lane, and El Molino Avenue, according to a Northwest Commission capital improvement presentation from March 2025.
Repair locations were prioritized using criteria developed by the city’s Accessibility and Disability Commission, the press release states. Priority factors include areas with high pedestrian activity, streets with heavy traffic, and locations where residents have reported ADA-related concerns, according to the press release.
The project covers an estimated 25,000 square feet of sidewalk, according to the press release.
The city intends the work to improve pedestrian safety, accessibility, and stormwater drainage, the press release states. Completion is anticipated in July.
The 206 CDBG-funded locations represent a portion of the city’s broader sidewalk repair needs. A separate general-funded contract covers 461 locations citywide, according to the agenda report. Together, the two contracts address 667 repair locations. The total estimated cost of the city’s five-year sidewalk improvement program is $12.1 million, of which $10.6 million is unfunded, according to a Transportation Advisory Commission budget presentation.
