Pasadena Water and Power is offering several incentives to encourage the purchase of both new and used electric vehicles (EVs) and the installation of charging stations at homes and businesses in Pasadena.
The EV rebate program allows residential electric customers to receive an incentive of $250 on the purchase or lease of a new or used EV. Customers can receive an additional $250 bonus rebate (up to $500) if they purchase or lease an EV from a Pasadena auto dealer. However, this bonus does not apply to Tesla vehicles, which rely on a direct-sale business model. Customers currently participating in PWP’s income-qualifying programs can receive an additional $1,000 (up to $1,500 total).
The rebate on new EVs ends on December 31, 2023, but rebates on used EVs will continue in 2024. To apply for the rebate, customers must submit an online application within 180 days from the date of purchase.
In addition to the EV rebate program, PWP also offers incentives for the installation of charging stations at homes and businesses. Residential electric customers are eligible for a $600 rebate when they install a qualifying “Wi-Fi enabled” or “Internet Connected” Level 2 (240V) EV charger at their home. Commercial electric customers can receive a $3,000 rebate for the installation of a smart Level 2 (240V) charging station, and a double-incentive bonus (up to $6,000 per charger) is available for certain qualifying sites.
With more than 100 publicly accessible EV charging stations, PWP is a leader in transportation electrification. For example, the Marengo Charging Plaza, located at 155 E. Green St., is one of the largest public fast-charging EV stations in the nation, with a total of 44 chargers.
PWP has served the Pasadena community for more than a century and has a strong commitment to providing a sustainable future through focused planning, clean energy initiatives, and community engagement.
