Members of the 2014 Pasadena City College football team recently took advantage of the opportunity to help children learn the sport last month when they volunteered at two youth football clinics held at the City of Pasadena’s Robinson Park.
On June 28, Rose Bowl Game sponsor Northwestern Mutual hosted the 5th Annual Youth Football Clinic, a free event that focused on teaching kids aging from 5 to 14 agility drills, offensive/defensive training, and character development.
The city earlier hosted the Marcus Robertson & Chad Brown Football Camp on June 21, a clinic that focused on fundamentals, skill development, discipline, determination and dedication. Children from ages 8 to 14 participated.
Several 2014 Lancers, including returning lettermen Ricky Blair and Serge Vita, along with assistant coaches Don Nelson, Peter Bisson, Peter Vargas, Miguel Gutierrez, and Addison Hawthorne, worked with children on physical drills as well as helping to mentally prepare them for a future in team sports.
“Not only did our student-athletes participate in teaching and coaching young people during football drills,†PCC head coach Fred Fimbres said, “but they also got the opportunity to sit and discuss the importance of teamwork and education.â€
