A Pasadena police commander told a Boston television station that a suspect in the 2021 fatal shooting of 13-year-old Iran Moreno may be in Massachusetts.
“We received information from a tipster in the Boston and more specifically the Swampscott area that recognized that individual from the sketch that we provided,” Cmdr. William Grisafe told CBS Boston. “This individual seemed very credible and was able to provide us some information that she believed that he was in that area.”
Police released sketches of the gunman and his possible getaway driver Wednesday afternoon.
Grisafe told CBS Boston that the tip was received Thursday morning, after the sketches were made public. A woman reported seeing the man several times in March and April in the Swampscott and Boston area.
Moreno was killed Nov. 20, 2021, while playing video games in his bedroom in Pasadena. A stray bullet from a shooting outside pierced through the wall, fatally striking him. Police said no one in the house appeared to be the intended target.
Pasadena police have asked law enforcement agencies in the Boston area to assist in the search, Grisafe said. There is currently no information on the whereabouts of the woman pictured in the second sketch.
According to police, the night of the shooting, the male suspect exited a parked vehicle across the street from Moreno’s home in the 900 block of North Raymond Avenue and fired two shots eastward. One bullet went through a window and struck the boy.
The shooter is described as a Black man with a medium complexion, approximately 33 to 37 years old, 6 feet to 6 feet 1 inch tall, and weighing between 185 and 195 pounds. He was last seen wearing a red and black “The North Face” hoodie.
The getaway driver is described as a Black woman with a medium complexion, approximately 27 to 31 years old, 5 feet 3 inches to 5 feet 5 inches tall, and weighing between 165 and 185 pounds.
Investigators believe the suspects and their vehicle have ties to Pasadena, San Jose, and Alameda County. Police also released composite sketches and surveillance images of a Ford Fusion linked to the case.
