I said it before and I stand by it.
The farther we get from the Eaton Fire, the farther we get from the compassion and giving spirit exhibited immediately after the fire.
Now it turns out the Altadena Town Council could soon vote to advise the County Board of Supervisors to enact construction-free Sundays.
On those days, construction would grind to a halt on the thousands of homes destroyed by the Eaton Fire to appease people who did not lose their homes.
Turns out some of the folks have taken to complaining about the noise. According to the ATC, a survey revealed that people living in the area support the idea.
I wonder how many people whose homes are under construction were surveyed.
How about we do this instead.
How about we have “Put on some damn earphones Sundays” and let the construction continue so the people who lost their homes can return back to the community.
Yes, and this is coming from someone whose family moved to Altadena in 1969.
Sheesh.
I wonder if it was your home, if you would not be calling for construction-free days.
Or, would you long for the chance to see daily or weekly progress.
What did you think was going to happen? Did you think special noise free hammers would be used during the rebuilds, or that you would somehow live in a vacuum.
The people who lost their homes should not be displaced longer than necessary.
Their time away from Altadena should not be extended for the comfort of those who were fortunate enough to see their homes make it through the fire.
Privilege really is a bitch.
Unfortunately, it’s nothing new.
People living above the Rose Bowl want to control the number of events in the iconic stadium which has only been there for 100 years, long before any of them moved into the neighborhood.
Others are so protective of the green in the Arroyo, they’re against goats performing fire mitigation in the area.
Nevermind the fact that a wind driven blaze on the level of the Eaton Fire could char everything in the Arroyo.
A community is only as good as its least fortunate residents.
If a construction company is willing to work seven days a week, then that work should be allowed, and the noise from that should be music to the ears of everyone living in Altadena.
The noise represents the comeback of a great community of residents who have refused to stay down and instead have fought insurance companies, regulations and now a governor who has lost his rabbit-ass mind to protect a utility responsible for the destruction of their homes, according to reports.
Stop crying about the noise.
That’s the sound of your neighbors coming home.
