Guary Lonnie Shuford III is scheduled to appear at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 15 in Department F of the Pasadena Courthouse, 300 E. Walnut St., in case GA115115. Prosecutors with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office Pasadena branch have charged Shuford with one count of murder and one count of felon in possession of a firearm in the death of 34-year-old Jamila Elysse Moss, 34.
In the incident, Pasadena Police Department officers responded at about 10:02 a.m. Aug. 21, 2023, to a “shots fired” call at a large apartment complex in the 200 block of South Raymond Avenue, near Del Mar Boulevard. Moss was found dead outside the complex, and officers identified an apartment unit within the complex connected to the victim, where they determined the suspect was barricaded inside.
Shuford allegedly barricaded himself inside Moss’s apartment, leading to a multi-hour standoff with SWAT before he surrendered at approximately 7 p.m., according to an investigative report summarizing a Pasadena Police Department press release.
Robbery/Homicide Unit detectives confirmed Moss and Shuford were involved in a romantic relationship, and the homicide appeared to be related to domestic violence, according to Lt. Keith Gomez of the Pasadena Police Department Robbery/Homicide Unit.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed the murder and firearm charges on Aug. 23, 2023.
Shuford appeared in court that day for arraignment, and bail was originally set at $3,075,000. A court appearance was held April 24, 2024, to set a preliminary hearing date, followed by a preliminary hearing on March 17, 2025, to determine probable cause for trial. The Dec. 15 pretrial hearing is scheduled in Department F, a criminal felony department at the Pasadena Courthouse, to resolve motions and confirm trial readiness.
The Quality Day Foundation, a violence prevention advocacy organization, has publicly adopted Moss’s case as part of its domestic violence awareness campaign.
