Public Works Hosts Fourth Community Outreach Event for Eaton Wash Project

Greg de Vinck, Director of Public Works, announced the department hosted the fourth community outreach event for the Eaton Wash Stormwater Capture Project, drawing students, parents, educators, and local stakeholders to Willard Elementary School to review the project’s 90% design and provide feedback that will help shape its final form.

The event was held Thursday, May 14, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. as part of the department’s continued effort to engage residents and stakeholders in the project’s design and implementation. Attendees were invited to explore the 90% design, learn about project benefits, and provide feedback to support final design considerations and future funding opportunities.

During the event, participants engaged with interactive and visual displays designed to communicate key project elements. A mini-hub installation reintroduced project background, benefits, stormwater components, and aboveground park features, while also showcasing renderings from specific park vantage points. Interactive walking-path installations illustrated how community feedback has directly influenced the evolution of the design.

A 360-degree installation provided an immersive experience of the proposed park layout, highlighting improvements to the main park area, adjacent easements, and planned roadway enhancements along Thorndale. Several partner organizations also participated, including Amigos de Los Rios, the Rio Hondo Watershed Coordinator from the Los Angeles County Safe Clean Water Program Measure W, and GroWORKS. The partners shared information on complementary programming such as environmental education, watershed stewardship, and workforce development opportunities, helping to connect the project to broader community benefits.

A total of 45 letters were received during the event, reflecting community interest and support from students, educators, parents, and local residents. The project is nearing completion of its design phase, with the 90% design reflecting input gathered throughout prior outreach events. Feedback collected during this event will help inform final refinements as the project advances toward final design, permitting, and construction funding. The City will continue to engage the community through future updates and coordination as the project progresses.
