Public health officials announced Tuesday that 79.5% of Pasadenans over 12 have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

Additionally, another 8.5% of the local population has received single doses of two-dose vaccine regimens, according to Pasadena Public Health Department data.

Nonetheless, transmission of the virus continued, primarily among unvaccinated people, with 14 new infections reported in the city on Tuesday. No new fatalities were reported.

In all, health officials in Pasadena have documented 11,471COVID-19 cases and 351 deaths since the onset of the pandemic.

The number of average daily infections detected over the prior week climbed to 11.9.

Huntington Hospital reported treating eight COVID-19 patients as of Tuesday, with one of them being treated in an intensive care unit.

At the county level, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health reported 61% of residents over 16 were fully vaccinated, while another 8% had received one dose of two-dose vaccine regimens.

The agency announced 1,103 new COVID-19 infections and 12 new deaths.

“One month ago, on June 13, the five-day average of cases was 201 and today the five-day average is 1,095,” according to an L.A. County Department of Public Health statement. “This is an increase of more than 500% in just one month.”

“The test positivity rate has increased nearly 700% from the 0.5% seen a month ago; today’s test positivity rate is 3.4%,” the statement added.

All told, county officials have documented 1,259,772 cases of the virus and 24,554 fatalities.

Officials also reported 376 patients were hospitalized with COVID-19 on Tuesday, with 23% of them being treated in ICUs.

Authorities, including L.A. County Director of Public Health Dr. Barbara Ferrer, once again implored those who have not been vaccinated to get immunized.

“The COVID-19 vaccines are the most powerful tool to reduce the risk of serious illness if infected. A significant number of unvaccinated people indoors, with a highly contagious Delta variant circulating, makes it easy for this variant to be transmitted at higher rates,” Ferrer said. “If you are not fully vaccinated yet, wear your mask in all indoor public settings and wash your hands or use hand sanitizer frequently when outside your home. Get vaccinated without delay to have the best protection.”

Statewide, 60.6% of eligible residents over 16 were fully vaccinated as of Tuesday, and another 9.3% have received one dose.

With 3,256 new infections and six deaths reported across the state, the pandemic totals stood at 3,736,999 infections and 63,478 fatalities.

The state’s average positivity rate over the prior week was measured at 2.7%, according to California Department of Public Health data.

As of Tuesday, L.A. County accounted for 34% of California’s COVID-19 infections and 39% of the state’s deaths.
