Pasadena’s Upper Hastings Ranch Neighborhood Lights Up for the Holidays

The Upper Hastings Ranch community of Pasadena is continuing its annual tradition of adorning the neighborhood with elaborate Christmas decorations, but are asking that those who come to take a look remain in their vehicles for safety.

Having already canceled many previous events this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Upper Hastings Ranch Association Treasurer Jolean Matsumoto said the 67-year-old tradition of decking the halls is going on now and continuing through Jan. 2.

“We wanted to do something light at the end of a dark year. Something joyful, so that everybody can enjoy and keep the tradition going,” Matsumoto said. “It’s something joyful instead of all this sadness going on throughout the year.”

In the interest of safety, the UHRA is asking that all visitors remain in their vehicles while checking out the displays and be mindful of social distancing.

“We’re just asking everybody to be safe when they come and see the displays,” Matsumoto said. “We’re trying to do everything the same as much as we can, but just be socially distant and be safe when you come and enjoy the light.”

Awards will be given out in several categories, Matsumoto said. Instead of a panel of guest judges, the selections will be made this year by the UHRA board.

“Just come and enjoy, but be safe,” Matsumoto said.
