The First United Methodist Church in Pasadena is set to welcome Father Greg Boyle of Homeboy Industries as the guest preacher for their Palm Sunday Service. The event, scheduled for April 2nd at 9:30 a.m., is free and open to the public.
The community will gather in front of the church on Colorado Blvd. to collect palm fronds and process into the sanctuary together.
During the Lenten season, First UMC is using Father Boyle’s book “Forgive Everyone Everything” as their devotional guide to themes of tenderness, wholeness, and the relentlessly redeeming love of God.
Father Boyle is the founder of Homeboy Industries, an organization that employs and trains former gang members seeking a better life. He is the author of several books, including “Tattoos on the Heart” and “Barking to the Choir.”
In 2014, the White House named Boyle a Champion of Change, and he received the University of Notre Dame’s 2017 Laetare Medal, the oldest honor given to American Catholics.
First United Methodist Church, founded in 1875, seeks to welcome all persons, regardless of sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, race, ethnicity, age, physical or mental capacity. Sunday Service is at 10 a.m.
