Numerous Pasadena streets were set to close Sunday morning for the Rose Bowl Half Marathon & 5K, a signature running event that culminates on the field of the world-famous stadium.
Road closures begin at 6 a.m. with a second wave at 8 a.m. Sunday, affecting major thoroughfares around the Rose Bowl and throughout West Pasadena, including Arroyo Boulevard, California Boulevard and Colorado Boulevard. Most streets will reopen between 10:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
The event, originally scheduled for January, was postponed due to recent wildfires and will now benefit Eaton Fire relief efforts in addition to supporting The McCourt Foundation’s mission to cure neurological diseases and empower healthier communities.
Both the half marathon and 5K races begin at 7 a.m., with runners traversing a scenic route that includes Old Pasadena, Caltech and the Colorado Street Bridge, before finishing on the Rose Bowl’s 50-yard line.
Colorado Boulevard will experience a complete closure between Orange Grove Boulevard and Arroyo Parkway from 6 a.m. until 11 a.m., while the Colorado Bridge will remain closed until 11:15 a.m.
The race features challenges including a gradual hill for the first three miles and the “California Climb” at mile two, before flattening out and descending in the ninth mile as runners return to the stadium.
A finish festival will run from 7 a.m. to noon, with a children’s race scheduled for 10:45 a.m.
