The Pasadena Area Community College District Board of Trustees unanimously approved multiple consent items and labor agreements during its Wednesday meeting at the district’s Creveling Lounge, including new faculty hires, infrastructure projects, and a summer construction career program for high school students.
The board approved a range of items, including student stipends for Upward Bound programs, travel for student conferences, and a National Science Foundation grant for ocean science research.
Trustees authorized solicitation of bids for multiple projects, including L Building window replacement, district-wide beverage and snack vending services, Title IX Deputy services, and American Sign Language interpreting services.
The board also approved a contract for Energy and Sustainability Planning and Advisory Services and awarded a Master Agreement for Design Services for new construction at the Rosemead Campus. Notices of completion were granted for C Building improvements, GM Building water mitigation, and tree trimming work.
Labor agreements with the PCC Faculty Association and California Federation of Teachers were unanimously ratified. The board also approved additional salary compensation for instructors in business, kinesiology, and health sciences for large group instruction.
A special presentation highlighted the Summer PCC Construction Career Program, which engaged 80 high school students from the San Gabriel Valley in hands-on training in building construction inspection, electricity, industrial fabrication, and welding.
The board approved multiple personnel actions, including 12 new temporary and permanent instructors across disciplines such as chemistry, biology, and music. Several staff members also transitioned to new roles within the college, including Carol Calandra becoming dean of Student Wellness and Support Services.
The next regular business meeting is scheduled for Sept. 10 at 5 p.m. in Creveling Lounge.
