Assemblymember Mike Fong Endorses John Harabedian for State Assembly 41

California State Assemblymember Mike Fong has officially endorsed former Sierra Madre City Councilmember and Mayor John Harabedian who’s running for the State Assembly to represent District 41, which includes Pasadena.

In a statement released by Harabedian’s campaign, Fong said he’s honored to support  Harabedian’s candidacy. 

“He is a dedicated public servant who is committed to delivering real results on some of California’s most pressing issues,” the statement said. “John’s experience, understanding, and work ethic make him a much-needed voice in the Assembly, and I look forward to working with him.”

Assemblymember Mike Fong has represented the 49th Assembly District since 2022 and currently holds significant roles, including being Chair of the Assembly Higher Education Committee and positions on the Appropriations, Banking and Finance, and Budget committees, and Budget Subcommittee #2 on Education Finance, and Arts, Entertainment, Sports, Tourism, and Internet Media. 

Fong also serves as the Assembly Vice Chair of the Asian American and Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus.

The 41st Assembly District includes Pasadena, and the cities of Bradbury, Claremont, La Cañada Flintridge, La Verne, Monrovia, Pasadena, San Dimas, Sierra Madre, and portions of Hesperia, Rancho Cucamonga, and Upland. 

Within District 41, registered Democrats outnumber registered Republicans by an 18% margin.

John Harabedian is a California State Board President, attorney, and brings a robust background in public service and law. Born and raised in Sierra Madre, he was elected to the Sierra Madre City Council in 2012, re-elected in 2016 and served two terms as Mayor.

Governor Jerry Brown and Governor Gavin Newsom appointed Harabedian to serve on the California Department of Consumer Affairs Acupuncture Board. 

Professionally, Harabedian’s experience spans roles as a prosecutor at the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, positions at Latham & Watkins, Stanford’s Immigrants’ Rights Clinic, and the Equality Pro Bono Project. He has been extensively involved in public affairs including being a Coro Fellow, Policy Analyst for Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s office, and various leadership positions within the Democratic Party. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Yale University, a master’s degree in comparative social policy from Oxford University, and a law degree from Stanford University.

He resides in Pasadena with his wife, Young-Gi, and their three children.
