Pasadena-based Bolton Insurance, in partnership with the IMA Foundation, is hosting its annual “Throw Down” fundraising event at the iconic Rose Bowl Stadium on Wednesday, Aug. 2.

The event features a cornhole tournament fielding more than 140 local teams competing. Games kick off at 10:30 a.m.

A Bolton statement said the tournament aims to raise over $225,000 in support of various California nonprofits.

Mike Morey, Bolton Executive Vice President of Business Operations and Chair of the Throw Down event, said the tournament offers an opportunity to give back to the community that has given so much.

“It’s a lot of fun, in a great venue, for an amazing cause,” Morey said. “Everyone who participates leaves knowing they have helped empower some incredible nonprofit organizations.”

Five California nonprofit organizations, including The Academy Project, CASA of Los Angeles, Giving Children Hope, Our Story Is, and WISEPlace, have been chosen as the recipients of the 2023 IMA Foundation grants. Each organization will receive a grant of $10,000 in recognition and support of their outstanding philanthropic work within the community.

California Market President Steve Brockmeyer expressed his admiration for the recognized nonprofits, calling them local heroes who make a positive impact in people’s lives every day.

“They do incredible work and help change lives every day,” he said. “This is our way of celebrating their success and investing in their efforts so that they can continue to thrive.”

The Bolton Throw Down has had a track record of success, raising over $1.3 million for nonprofits to date. The event garners significant support, with Bolton offices closing on the day of the event to enable employee volunteers to participate.

Besides the grant recipients, all other fundraising proceeds will be distributed through the IMA Foundation’s formal grant process to various California nonprofit organizations. The IMA Foundation, is the charitable giving arm of IMA Financial Group, representing over 2,000 associates and employee-owners at the core of IMA’s business.

Bolton started in 1931 as Bolton & Company. In April 2021, Bolton & Company became known as Bolton, following its partnership with IMA Financial Group.
