Caltech Volleyball swept the West Coast Baptist University Eagles (Lancaster, Calif.) as part of a season-opening doubleheader at Braun Gymnasium Saturday, as multiple individuals turned in strong performances.

Caltech started the day with a morning match against Hope International University (Fullerton, Calif.). Junior Alize Bakker (Portland, Ore. / Westview) got her season off to a strong start with the seventh double-double of her Caltech career. Bakker tallied 11 kills and 10 digs in the season-opening effort.

First-year outside hitter Veda Chennupati (Collierville, Tenn. / Collierville High School) showcased an efficient swing against Hope International, leading the Beavers with a remarkable .417 hitting percentage. She racked up six kills in her first collegiate match.

In its second match of the day, Caltech downed the West Coast Baptist Eagles 25-3, 25-11, 25-7. First-year Emma Berg (Casselberry, Fla. / Lyman High School) joined Bakker and Chennupati to lead the club with five kills each. First-year Rena Zhang (Peoria, ill. / Dunlap High School) had herself a day at the service line with a game-high seven aces, just three shy of the program record for aces in a single match.

The Beavers are back in action this Saturday at Life Pacific University in San Dimas, Calif. Caltech will square off against the Westcliff University Warriors (Irvine, Calif.) at 1 p.m. before taking on the hosts, also Warriors, in a 3 p.m. match.
