“City maintenance workers have been working throughout the month of April in the Central Arroyo, clearing mandated fire clearance areas along the road and adjacent to structures,” according to Pasadena Parks, Recreation and Community Services.
The City launched a new phase on May 1 when it began weed abatement and brush clearance through a newly contracted service. Work started in the southern portion of the Lower Arroyo and will progress northward toward Hahamongna Watershed Park.
To supplement these efforts, Pasadena has formed a partnership with Outward Bound Adventures, a nonprofit work-study program that will conduct additional weed abatement and brush clearance along the Central Arroyo.
In a creative approach to vegetation management, the City is partnering with One Arroyo to fund a goat herding program expected to launch during summer months. The goats will help clear areas of invasive grasses and weeds in a sustainable manner.
“The City will be working closely with One Arroyo to source grant funds to implement larger projects including removing invasive species and replacing them with native species,” according to the Pasadena Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services.
