[Updated] Pasadena Human Relations Commissioner Jonathan Horton has announced his candidacy for the District 4 City Council seat in the November 2024 election. Horton would face current Councilmember Gene Masuda, who has served on the Council since 2011.
Horton said he is a lifelong Pasadena resident and a graduate of three Pasadena public schools. He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.
After college, Horton worked as a federal caseworker, where he helped hundreds of families with issues such as housing, immigration, and veterans affairs.
Horton is currently a member of the Pasadena Human Relations Commission.
“When you love something, you want the absolute best for it,” Horton said on his website.
“Pasadena is an incredible community with so much to offer. Great schools, abundant green space, diverse culture, and more. It is the perfect place to start a family and raise children but it is not without issue. The cost of living is higher than ever and many people’s dream of one day owning a home constantly moves further out of reach. Long time and prospective residents are being priced out and Pasadena’s next generation of caretakers will not exist if we fail to act now.”
