Webster’s Community Pharmacy, an Altadena landmark since 1926, reopens its doors today at its new Chase Plaza location at 2333 Lake Avenue after its closure since early January caused by the Eaton Fire.
Unlike so many Altadena businesses, Webster’s was fortunate to have survived the destruction all around it.
“Exciting news! Webster’s Community Pharmacy in Altadena will re-open its doors on Monday, February 17, at 9:00 a.m.,” announced co-owner Meredith Miller.
“During the first phase of our re-opening, the Pharmacy will be fully operational,” Miller explained. “We will be able to process and fill all your prescriptions, and our team will be available to answer any questions you may have and arrange for your prescriptions to be delivered locally.”
To welcome customers, the pharmacy is offering free coffee and donuts during the reopening.
Founded by Frank Webster, the pharmacy played a historic role in the community, becoming one of only two San Gabriel Valley pharmacies authorized to sell medicinal liquor during Prohibition. Over decades, it expanded to five interconnected storefronts, offering pharmacy services, cosmetics, photography supplies, and a liquor store, serving as a de facto general store for Altadenans.
Under the ownership of Michael and Meredith Miller since 2010, Webster’s has balanced modern innovations with community tradition. The Millers introduced prescription delivery services, a mobile app, and robotic prescription verification while preserving the pharmacy’s community-centric identity through retro toys, gifts, and personalized service.
The new location, though smaller, features enhanced immunization services and consultation areas. While traditional services like post office and utility bill payments were discontinued in March 2024, the facility maintains its core pharmacy operations and signature personalized approach, known for staff who know customers by name and inquire about their families.
