The mercury is dropping for a cooler weekend  — cooler, maybe, but not actually cool. Expect temps in the mid 90’s.

An unexpected surge of southerly flow brought significant cooling to Pasadena on Saturday, pushing temperatures down by about 5 degrees.

But the heat wave kicked off warnings from the professionals at the National Weather Service: a Heat Advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. Sunday when an Excessive Heat Watch, from Sunday evening through Monday evening, takes effect.

Next week every day will top out in the lower 90’s, according to the NWS.

Here’s the forecast from the NWS:

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 94. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming south southwest in the morning.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 66. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming east in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 15 mph.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 95. South southwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 67. South wind around 5 mph.
