A grassroots initiative led by community organizer Lakaysha Redd will distribute filled purses to unhoused women at the Flintridge Center in Pasadena this December 18th.
The free event, titled “Bags of Blessings: A Holiday Giveaway,” will operate on a first-come, first-served basis from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., with doors opening at 2:30 p.m., at 236 West Mountain Avenue. Room 118.
The Flintridge Center and Reddy Cares have partnered to sponsor the charitable effort, which honors Linda Hudggins, who suffers from severe diabetes, according to event materials.
Each donated purse will contain hygiene essentials, snacks, throw blankets, and greeting cards, with the possibility of travel-size perfumes and unused makeup depending on available donations.
Beyond material assistance, the event will provide construction apprenticeship information, employment resources, and educational materials about diabetes testing and prevention for attendees.
The Flintridge Center will provide complimentary food for participants, and toys may be available for children based on funding levels, organizers said.
Community members interested in supporting the initiative can deliver donations to the Flintridge Center by December 16th, 2024, or arrange pickup through event coordinator Lakaysha Redd at (909)267-0417. No registration is required to attend.
