Local Therapist Sued by 2 of 7 Women Who Accused Him of Sexual Abuse

A Pasadena therapist sentenced to four years in prison in January after pleading no contest to sexually abusing seven patients is being sued by two of his victims.

The plaintiffs are identified only as Jane A.G. Doe and Jane L.G. Doe in the Los Angeles Superior Court lawsuit filed Thursday against 66-year-old Edgar Gustavo Villamarin of Pasadena, who pleaded no contest to seven counts of sexual abuse. He was ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life when he is released from prison as part of his Los Angeles Superior Court sentence.

The two women seek unspecified compensatory and punitive damages. A representative for Villamarin could not be immediately reached.

Villamarin obtained his marriage and family therapist license in 1982, the suit states.

“Villamarin would use his trusted position of authority to sexually assault victims who were his patients and who sought to overcome mental health issues and concerns,” the suit states. “Yet, Villamarin would cause even greater harm and further cause more damage to the women he sexually assaulted.”

Jane A.G. Doe, who had been a crime victim, sought treatment from Villamarin in August 2014 and ended up being sexually assaulted by the therapist when he purported to give her a massage that he told her she needed, the suit alleges.

Jane L.G. Doe was sexually abused in a similar way in May 2014 after Villamarin told her a massage could help relieve her stress after the suicide death of her 12-year-old son, the suit states.

Both women have suffered emotional anguish and physical harm and will probably continue to incur expenses for medical treatment, according to the suit.
