Trial is scheduled today for Jose Vasquez Flores, who is accused of stabbing a passenger on the Metro Gold Line Train in Pasadena, in August 2011.

Trial is scheduled for Dept. C of the Pasadena Courthouse, 300 E. Walnut St.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told KABC7 that a fight had escalated into a stabbing on the northbound Metro Gold Line about 6:35 p.m. on Aug. 26, 2011.

“That altercation resulted in one of the men being stabbed multiple times in the upper torso,” Metro police Capt. Dan Cruz told KABC7.

Witnesses called 911 and gave a description of the suspect. Officers arrested Flores, 36, and recovered a knife with blood stains in his pockets, KABC7 reported.

The reported victim, a 33-year-old man, was listed in critical but stable condition at an area hospital. Flores was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

Flores was later charged with one count of attempted willful, deliberate and premeditated murder. The complaint alleges that he committed the offense to benefit a street gang, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

If convicted, he faces up to life in prison, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
