Cisco Home, a pioneer in sustainable furniture design, is marking its 35th anniversary by donating a percentage of all April sales from its Pasadena store to The Salvation Army’s services in Greater Pasadena.

The Los Angeles-based retailer’s flagship location has operated at 474 South Arroyo Parkway in Pasadena for 20 years.

Funds raised will support The Salvation Army’s Greater Pasadena services, including food, shelter, holiday meals, gifts and resources for low-income youth, families, unhoused individuals and veterans.

Founded in 1989 by Mexican immigrants Cisco and Alba Pinedo, the company began as a small upholstery shop when the couple was 26 years old. Both left high school at age 16 to begin working, Alba at a women’s shoe factory and Cisco as an upholstery apprentice in South Central Los Angeles. They married at age 21 and five years later opened their own business.

What started as a family business grew into a recognized name in sustainable furniture design over three decades. The company was among the first manufacturers to address waste in furniture production by using sustainable materials including non-toxic foams, FSC certified hardwood and natural fabrics. The brand became an early member of the Sustainable Furnishing Council.

Committed to American-made goods, Cisco Home products are manufactured in Los Angeles and North Carolina. The furniture line now includes upholstery, handblown glass lighting and metal work.

Cisco Pinedo died unexpectedly at age 59 in 2023. The company is now led by his daughter, Maurishka Pinedo, who serves as president, with daughters Natalie and Amanda also involved in daily operations.

Under Maurishka’s leadership, Cisco Home’s core values will not only endure but thrive, according to the company. Future plans include expanding collaborations and offering distinctive gift items from favorite artisans and craftspeople.

Beyond furniture, the Pinedos established META (Making Education the Answer), a nonprofit providing mentorship and higher education scholarships to Latino youth from disadvantaged backgrounds and communities in Southern California.

Cisco Home operates its flagship Pasadena store and a second location in Culver City’s Helms Bakery District. For more information, visit ciscohome.net.
