A 51-year-old Pasadena man was arrested Wednesday in connection with an assault involving a folding chair that left a relative injured, according to Pasadena Police Lieutenant Matt Campeau.
The incident occurred Tuesday, Sept. 3, at approximately 3:36 p.m. in the 800 block of North El Molino Avenue. Officers responded to the scene after receiving reports of an assault with a deadly weapon, Campeau said.
Upon arrival, officers learned that the suspect—identified as Alex Mata arrived unannounced and was not welcome at the location, Campeau said. When he was told to leave, he allegedly grabbed a nearby folding chair and swung it at the victim’s head.
The victim, identified as a 49 year old Pasadena man and relative to the suspect, raised his arms to shield himself, resulting in the chair striking his left hand and forearm. He sustained a fractured left middle finger, Campeau said.
Mata, who is reportedly on probation for assault, fled but returned later, at which point officers detained him.
No other weapons were involved, and there was no indication of drug or alcohol use at the time of the incident, Campeau said.
