Upgraded security is coming to Kings Villages, according to a statement by District 3 City Councilmember Justin Jones.
Rose Community Management and their onsite security team is making the upgrades after receiving feedback from residents living in the complex.
The Management will reportedly be allocating extra resources; including the installation of additional security cameras and an increase in their security team patrols in efforts to help de-escalate incidents. Residents at this multi-unit apartment complex are expected to see upgrades to their gates.
The complex’s on-site security team will also be working with site management to host quarterly meetings with residents that will also include City officials.
The upgrades come after a fatal shooting on Oct. 23.
The shooting occurred on Monday, Oct. 23, and claimed the life of 26-year-old Pasadena resident Cecilio Hernandez Ramirez Jr.
It also left a 17-year-old young man injured.
Police said they received a ShotSpotter automated gunshot alert and 911 calls at about 7:46 p.m. pointing them to Morton Avenue and West Hammond Street outside the Kings Village complex.
Responding units found the victims there, police said.
Both men were taken to a hospital, where Ramirez was pronounced dead.
Councilmember Jones met with the families of the victims and residents throughout the apartment complex after the shooting.
At a meeting with the residents of the building, attended by Jones and City officials, the residents at Kings Village talked about the lack of on-site security and cameras.
Following that meeting, Jones met with the property management team that runs the property.
“In order to improve the quality of life for our residents, it is imperative that all entities involved work collaboratively,” Jones said. “Each resident deserves the comfort of feeling safe within their home.”
Jones said he is committed to fostering cooperation among the various stakeholders to enhance the well-being of the community, and encouraged residents to continue using voices to speak out.
“Together, we can continue to take measures to ensure our neighborhoods are safe,” Jones said.
