Sinkhole Repairs to Reduce 710 Freeway Off-Ramp To Single Lane Monday

Published on Monday, April 3, 2023 | 6:53 am

The California Boulevard off-ramp from the southbound 710 Freeway will be reduced to a single lane again on Monday for repairs to a sinkhole that opened up last week.

The closure will begin at 7 a.m. and is expected to last until 3 p.m., according to the city of Pasadena.

During the closure, only one lane of the off-ramp will be open to traffic. Drivers are advised to expect delays.

The sinkhole was discovered on Wednesday. It is believed to have been caused by an aging storm drain pipe that collapsed.

The city has contracted with a company to repair the pipe. The work will involve lining the pipe with new material.

The pipe lining operation is specialized work and requires equipment and material that the city does not own.

The sinkhole is located near the intersection of California Boulevard and the 710 Freeway. It is about 10 feet wide and 5 feet deep.

Drivers can use a detour to the Del Mar Boulevard off-ramp.

A detour has been set up and is available.  [See map below]
