The four years that La Salle High School has participated in the VEX Robotics Competition (VRC) has seen much success. The team has been awarded 3 Tournament Champion awards, 1 Tournament excellence award, 1 Build award, 1 Service award and 1 Design award.
The team has qualified for the world championship tournament in 3 of our 4 years of participation. This year the the world championships were held at the Anahiem Convention Center. Close to 500 teams were represented from around the world in a truly international event. In our division dubbed “Technology†the lancers finished 23rd out of 85 teams. La Salle was very competitive even with the misfortune of being teamed up with partner robots that were sadly ineffective in more than one qualification round. It should be noted that the world champion alliance of 3 robots came from the “Technology†division.
On the service front La Salle Robotics has successfully completed two years of educational outreach to pass on the experience of robotics related building and programming to local 7th and 8th graders. We’ve been able to serve Barnhart School, St. Rita School, Sierra Madre Middle School, and St. Felicitas School. The students on La Salle’s Robotics Team live the motto, “Enter to Learn, Leave to Serveâ€.
Preparations for next year are underway and we look forward to another very successful year. Perhaps even a world champion title.
