UPS is hiring up to 12,000 seasonal workers from across Southern California as the company prepares for the peak holiday season. Nationwide, the requirement may reach over 100,000 workers, the company said on its website.

A scan of the job listings in Los Angeles County shows UPS is in need of delivery drivers, driver helpers, shop porters, package handlers, freight operations specialists, warehouse workers, building maintenance mechanics, full-time clerks, part-time dock workers, and many other employees throughout Southern California.

Those who qualify may be assigned to UPS warehouses in Los Angeles, Van Nuys, San Bernardino, Riverside, Baldwin Park, Ontario and Anaheim, among others.

In an email, UPS spokesman Steve Nagata said at least a third of seasonal workers hired are eventually employed on a permanent basis at the company. He added that a more streamlined hiring process could lead to drivers, helpers and package handlers being hired in under 30 minutes.

“It’s a tough labor market and we’re doing everything we can to attract talent,” Nagata said.

Pay for the wide range of jobs at UPS could be anywhere from $15 to $23 an hour, the company said.

Most seasonal employees will stay employed at UPS until January as the company has to handle a second surge of gift card returns and purchases received during the holiday season, Nagata continued.
