A new affordable housing development for seniors who have previously experienced homelessness is set to open its doors in Pasadena next week, offering a lifeline to some of the area’s most vulnerable residents.

Heritage Square South, a 69-unit permanent supportive housing community, will celebrate its grand opening on Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 11 a.m.

The project, developed by BRIDGE Housing, targets extremely low-income seniors in an area known for its high housing costs.

Located at 710 North Fair Oaks Avenue, the complex consists of three three-story buildings. It includes 69 one-bedroom apartments and a two-bedroom manager’s unit, along with 2,200 square feet of commercial space at the intersection of Fair Oaks and Orange Grove Boulevard.

BRIDGE Housing, a leading nonprofit affordable housing developer and manager on the West Coast, spearheaded this transformational project.

Pasadena-based homeless advocacy organization and service provider Union Station Homeless Services will offer intensive case management services to residents.

The development boasts environmentally friendly features, earning it an Affordable Multifamily GreenPoint Rated Platinum certification. It incorporates renewable energy systems, though specific details were not provided.

Heritage Square South is adjacent to Heritage Square, another BRIDGE Housing development opened in 2016 with 70 affordable apartments for low-income seniors. The proximity of the two projects creates a significant cluster of affordable housing in the area.

The grand opening ceremony will feature several prominent speakers, including Mayor Victor Gordo of Pasadena. William Huang, Housing Director for the City of Pasadena, Ken Lombard, President and CEO of BRIDGE Housing, and Howard Kahn, Interim CEO of Union Station Homeless Services, are also expected to address attendees.

Keith D. Dickson, a resident of Heritage Square South, will share his perspective during the event.

The development team includes KTGY Architects and R.D. Olson Construction, who served as the architect and general contractor, respectively.
