The Pasadena City College men’s soccer team is off to a 2-0-1 start to the ’16 season following a 1-1 tie at Cuyamaca on September 2. The Lancers needed a goal by Yader Rodriguez with four minutes left to stay undefeated.

Rodriguez took a sharp pass from Jesus Garcia, eluded two defenders and drove a shot into the far left corner of the net from 21 yards away.

Cuyamaca had taken a 1-0 lead in the 49th minute after a PCC foul gave the Coyotes the ball at the top of the goal box. Mauricio Amezcua scored past PCC freshman goalie Kristopher Guerra. Sophomore goalie Yusuf Elmasri (one save) tended the Lancers net for the first 45 minutes and has not allowed a goal in 2-1/2 games.

PCC head coach Henry Cabral praised the play of his reserves Joshua Arevalo, Manuel Chavez and Lucas Rodriguez, who provided “spark in the midfield” that helped the Lancers dominate play in the second half. Jayden Norman took advantage of his first collegiate start at right back and was solid, according to Cabral.

The Lancers won’t play again until Friday, Sept. 16 when they travel to Antelope Valley.
