Pasadena Transit and Dial-A-Ride will offer free rides system-wide on Tuesday, February 4, alongside other regional providers in observance of Transit Equity Day, a national day of action declaring public transit as a civil right.
The observance commemorates the birthday of Rosa Parks, an iconic civil rights leader who refused to give up her bus seat in Montgomery, Alabama on December 1, 1955 in protest and to demand an end to segregation on transit systems.
The Pasadena Department of Transportation aims to honor the day’s tenets by offering accessible and affordable transit.
The Department said in a statement on Thursday that it is committed to achieving the safe, efficient and convenient movement of people and goods within Pasadena, while concurrently ensuring a balance between land use and transportation to maintain a livable community in which cars are not necessary to travel within the city.
Metrolink and Los Angeles Metro are also offering free rides system-wide in honor of Transit Equity Day, making the initiative a coordinated regional effort.
